Thinking back ...... (way back)
Ok, not that FAR back since I am only *AHEM* 25 (give or take a few years)
I was a kid.
I didn't pay attention to calendars or time.
I didn't have a nifty laptop with the calendar right there in front of my face.
My point, I didn't know what day it was BUT I always knew when it got close to Christmas.
HOW?
The holiday cartoons, of course.
We had The Grinch, Charlie Brown, Rudolph and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas.
(remember that one? Probably my favorite.)
Oh, one year there was also A Smurf's Christmas special.
I remember getting all Happy and Giddy and stuff.
Christmas was coming!
Santa was coming!
Another cartoon I watched . . . Frosty the Snowman.
Ah, Frosty definitely melted my heart.
I loved that big lump of ice.
I did.
But ya see, CBS has put a damper on my OLD Frosty feelings this year.
Yep.
They came out with an endorsement OF SORTS for a couple of their popular tv shows using our beloved Frosty the Snowman.
"Ummm OK???"
You say.
"NO, NOT OK."
I say.
Here, take a look at the commercial.
Another version
(you'll have to click the links....I felt icky posting them.)
Ok, really...
They were slowing down my site.
BUT
They still make me feel icky.
Watch?
PORN, STRIPPERS, KNOCKING SOME CHICK UP?
Uh....
SURE it's labeled "Frosty the Inappropriate Snowman".
blah blah blah
And like I said, It's clearly advertising two of the more popular comedies on CBS.
Oh, it also advertises the REAL FROSTY THE SNOWMAN at the very end. See that??
BUT
IT'S FROSTY THE SNOWMAN.
FROSTY THE SNOWMAN, PEOPLE.
FROSTY THE SNOWMAN that my kids have been watching.
FROSTY THE SNOWMAN that I cherished as a TYKE.
Ok, it's sick.
I have made my point.
MY BLOG, MY POINT
While searching for a video clip to use in this post, I found myself on a forum of sorts.
Someone had mentioned the news article attached with the Frosty controversy.
As I was reading the replies, I started feeling sick all over again.
Replies like :
"What's the big deal?"
"Just another PRUDE."
"I don't see a problem. I talk openly with my children about sex."
"They see it everywhere. I tell them like it is."
"We are pretty open with our children about everything."
"They are bound to see something even worse eventually."
I'm all... "WOAH!"
The big deal?
My children are 5, 6 and 11.
NO
NO
NO
I will not talk OPENLY about sex with them.
It's just NOT going to happen at this time.
OPENLY??
It's just not something they need to know about UNTIL THEY ARE MARRIED.
Ok, maybe a little before then but GEESH let them be KIDS for awhile!
Your kid may be ready to hear about such things but FOR ME AND MINE.....
nope
They see it everywhere?
NO!
My kids most certainly DO NOT.
Ya know why?
WE, as parents, CHOOSE what our children will see.
A lot of parents need to stop being PALS and go back to parenting.
*But that's a subject for another day*
Seeing things WORSE than this?
I don't even wanna think about that.
I WON'T.
Ok, once again I have took a detour from my original point.
Frosty talking about whores (that was the word used), and porn?
CBS??
Surely you could have come up with something else.
Why use Frosty (a holiday cartoon icon FOR CHILDREN)?
Remember when you could watch tv with your kids and not have to worry about such things?
Now we even have to "fast forward" through commercials.
It's sad.
It really is.
I must add that the "Inappropriate Frosty" is viewed on the CBS website.
That still doesn't make it ok.
FOR ME
Just sayin'
My blog and all ...
P to the S : I guess that makes me a prude.

I am with you all the way, sister! That is just completely sick and wrong! My 6 yr. old loves Frosty and I am appalled that CBS did this. Awesome post! You took the words right out of my mouth!
Welcome to the "Prude Mamas" club....I am Linda, your hostess without the mostess!
First, the networks need to stop showing the Christmas specials so early. A couple have been on already, and they never used to show them until after my bday (Friday). I want my bday first, THEN Christmas.
Second, YES! AMEN! Tell it sister! Parents DO need to stop trying to be their kids' friends and be parents. That's why there's so many disrespectful little.......OK, I can't find a nice word to finish that sentence with.
Third, After the stories friends told me during their student teaching tours, I WILL be open with my kids about sex. There were 6th graders (11 and 12yos) caught having sex in a closet. Evidently that's pretty common now in our schools. You think a convent would take my boys?
Amanda, It's sad isn't it??
Believe me, If my kids were in the school system *we homeschool* then they would probably know all about sex. Yep, I would of HAD THE TALK by now and that makes me cringe.
My neighbor told me about a second grader in the bathroom with a classmate doing (well....I won't post it) BUT A SECOND GRADER??
They have to be seeing this somewhere. It's just sad.
I'm not trying to shelter my kids.
Really, I'm not.
OK, not TOO MUCH
Children....innocence....
What happened??
I found your blog off the vintage pearl blog. Just wanted to give you kuddos for speaking up. I completely agree. I think people who like watching that stuff are weird, not those who like to bypass it.
Wow,I can't believe that they have done that! Ugh...I am with you in the Prude Mamas club. And talking to your kids about sex, and showing them sexualized images and tv are two totally different things, so those people that excuse CBS by saying that they are open about sex with their kids anyway are missing the point, in my opinion. Are they saying that they want their children to not only see that behavior but emulate it...cause that is what kids do! Ok, sorry rambling here...that is what I do :)
THanks for posting your honest opinions on this one, it needed to be said!
I completely 100% agree! Sure they are going to see something bad at some point in their lives, but why now?? Why when they should be able to just be kids and be innocent and pure!?!
If the world hadn't turned to such trash they would not be seeing things like this or even run the risk of seeing things like this at this age. It is appalling what some people just find acceptable and normal.
okay I am going to stop now.. or I never will
That commercial has made me SO angry! Words cannot express how mad it made me.
Why can't children be allowed to be children anymore?? What made them think, even for a second, that this would be alright?
And the people saying it's "no big deal"? That makes me sick. I feel bad for their children. Let kids be kids. They will have the rest of their lives to learn about sex, etc.
Great post, Linda! We can be prude mommas together :)
Wow... Can I join the "Prude Mamas" club too? That is just wrong. And sad.
How dare them taint our little Frosty!
I am with you on this one. I can't believe it. If this makes me a prude then so be it!
lovely post. i used to love xmas a lot and when i was a kid, so innocent i was that i completely believed on Santa. i discovered its non-existence only when i was 2nd year high school when i caught my parents putting presents in our socks.
i guess no kids nowadays believe that Santa really is the one who puts presents in the socks but their parents.
and that proves the point ;)
Like your profile! Thanks for stopping by my blog recently. I'm having a lot of technical difficulty so I'm a little behind on my comments. I think I might concentrate on writing guest posts for awhile. :-{
My old blog address is running pretty well, it's just ugly looking. I'll keep this site going until I work out the bug on my other. www.justbecausemypickletalks.blogspot.com
I went to the site to see the video, but there is a message on YouTube that the owners of the video have asserted their copyrights so the Video has been taken down off YouTube, anyway.
right on sister! i couldn't believe this aired when my husband showed it to me! what a disgrace to CBS!! we will not be watching their station for a long time! how dare they shame frosty like that!!!
