The joys of email

Ah, the joys of email...

I would much rather use email than speak over the phone. It's true!
I can speak my mind, get it all out and over with with one click instead of sitting on the phone listening and listening and then listening some more. Maybe I'll get a word in or maybe I won't?

That sounds rather horrible, doesn't it?
It's not that I don't care about what the other person has to say. It's just that I am a mom....
A very busy mom with little to NO time on my hands.

I would rather get it over with in a matter of seconds.
Because let's face it, Moms may only have seconds at that moment.
Kids don't understand "meaningful conversations with other adults".

I've been doing the "email" thing for some time now. I'm like a pro, ya know? lol
However, I came to the realization that not ALL emails users are pros. We all have to start somewhere, right?

Let's take my mom for instance (LOVE THAT WOMAN)...
But when she first got a computer and started emailing....
Well...
It was like pulling teeth trying to explain it to her.

"Where do I put the pictures?"
"How do I change the color?"
"Did you get it?"
"What about now?"
"Now?"

Ay Yi Yi!

It took us awhile but she finally got the hang of it. Phew! lol

I am thrilled beyond words (on an email) because now we can communicate at all times without having to worry whether or not the other is busy.

She is able to send photos and receive them.
She is able to LINK recipes instead of type them out.

Heck, She may be ready for a fancy phone with email.

I'll just have someone else explain it to her! haha

Ok, maybe she's not ready...

I formed many lasting friendships through email

I will never forget the first time I actually started using email as a way to communicate outside of my home. The year was 2002 and I had just left my career or 6 years to become a SAHM. Needless to say, it was a huge transition going from working woman to full-hands-on Stay at Home Mommy. After a few weeks (more like days) I became bored. There's only so much cooking, cleaning and eating bon bons a girl can take. (Smile)

I needed interaction that did not include Dora or the Teletubbies and a 4 year old. I needed interaction of the ADULT KIND. I needed other women OH HECK, I needed anyone to talk to.
I started exploring the internet which led to me shopping a lot (but that is besides the point). I noticed on my Yahoo! front page that there were these "groups" and after a little more digging, I noticed that there were groups for MOM's, Mom's like ME that stayed at home all day.

I joined a few and met so many different ladies. Soon, our large group turned into a smaller group and we branched off to strictly email communication. It was wonderful. Not only did I have the adult interaction that I was looking for but I also gained life long friends. We chatted via group email sessions daily.
We always knew when a husband got a new promotion or when a child completed a special milestone. It was also a way for us to gain information off of each other. If a sudden rash appeared on a child, we knew where to ask for help. It was GREAT!

I was with these women through the pregnancies of my two younger children. We talked about the aches and pains. It really was like we went through it TOGETHER although we were sitting behind computers chatting via email.

Email has been a great tool for me and my establishing long lasting friendships. Yes, we are still email buddies to this day and some of us have even met in person!
(Nearly 9 years later!!)

Do you have a story to share? Do you have a special email experience? I would love to hear about it.
