I think your employees need a "Loss Prevention" type lecture.
I do.
Ya see,
We came into your store (Store #719 in Southaven, MS) last Thursday night for a little shopping.
Hunky Hubby needed some new tennis shoes and a few shirts.
We also got one of those beard trimmer thingys.
*OVER PRICED but we still bought it.
OOOH and kitchen hand towels....Valentine's ones with cute cats on them.
OH, and they also had I LOVE MEW on them.
That's the real reason we got them.
Our cats name is Mew.
Perfect, huh?
ANYWAY, after browsing . . .
We decided to pay and go home.
I took the kids outside in that little waiting area while hunky hubby paid.
They like to press the handicapped button and open the doors for everyone.
They also like to run back and forth (one seat to another) while I shout at them.
It's quite annoying but it's better than having them stand at the register to wave and make faces at the security camera.
IT IS.
Ok, back to the story...
I have a point, I promise.
Hunky Hubby (my husband) finally paid and came into the little waiting area.
He looked down at the receipt with an odd look on his face.
Then he said, I don't think she charged me for the shoes.
He handed me the receipt and sure enough the shoes were not on there.
He said "I'm gonna go back and tell her."
(as I knew he would)
I said "Ok, we will wait."
We waited....
and waited....
and ....
Ok, it wasn't really THAT long but for dramatic affects I must add that.
I kept looking in there and could see the Hunky One looking over the receipt and shaking his head at the lady.
He did this twice maybe three times.
FINALLY, he got it taken care of and we were off again.
When we got in the car he told me what happened when he tried to tell the lady about the mishap.
She asked him over and over again "Are you SURE I didn't charge you for them?"
It was kind of like "WINK WINK....nudge nudge....ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO TELL ME??"
Of course, my husband said "NO. You did not charge me."
She then acted as if he was crazy for coming back in there to let him know.
&
She said this
"Well, this would have made SOMEONE'S DAY."
My husband replied with "Yeah, but God would've known."
Would it make your day when inventory time came around, Kohl's??
Didn't think so
Things that make ya go hmmm.....

I love how you put the STORE NUMBER. Listen, I used to do corporate HR. I love this post. I think your hubby is an amazing man. I would suggest sending your link to Kohls corporate. Maybe youjust might get thoses for free afterall! Or the store manager...because if that lady had done that before she probably does it frequently and does not care. She would be immediately fired so I guess you will have to think about whether what you hubby said was enouh to change her ways or if you should call??
LOL love the letter! Especially the specific store number, hehee.
On a more serious note, I think it's awesome that your husband went back with the shoes. There are a lot of people who would have knowingly walked on out of there with a free pair of shoes.
As far as the cashier goes.. huh. I don't even know what to say lol. I wouldn't even think to do that, or think that people DID do that.
Also, just wondering, if you're planning on forwarding this little gem onto Corporate, might you include the fact that attempting to shove a Kohl's Charge Account down customers' throats ISN'T conducive to pleasant shopping experience? In fact it makes the customer who doesn't want (or can't get... me! :p) a Kohl's Charge DREAD the checkout line. Thanks. :p
Good for your husband and more importantly the lesson this taught your kids. I still vividly remember the time Pizza Hut did not charge us for the bread sticks and my mom went and pointed this out and told them. She didn't say anything about why she did it or about being honest, she didn't need to.
I will never forget that.
That's why the beard trimmer thingy was so over priced. They're making up for "lost" inventory.
We've gone back into stores and paid for items that we weren't charged for before too. The employees were surprised, but never tried to encourage us to steal by way of facial expression or jestures. That's a new one!
I bet their inventory is way off with a cashier like that.
Hopefully the clerk learned a "valuable lesson"! It's wonderful what your hubby did and also show your children an important lesson about honesty.
Good for you two! This will be a wonderful lesson in honesty for your children. Bravo!
I got a gift card from my boss once to Marshall's that was supposed to be for $40. Whoever put in the amount for the card put $400! I called my boss to make sure she didn't get charged for that and she said she didn't. So... to enjoy the extra $360 shopping spree! Well, as much as I REALLY wanted to spend that money I called Marshall's and told them about the issue. There was a blah customer service girl who disinterestedly asked me for the card info and put in the correct amount. NOT ONE "THANK YOU" or anything!! And I coulda lied about the original amount too! I was kinda hoping they would "reward" me or something. $360 would have been a lot of mulah for them to lose! Needless to say I didn't fell gratified at all after that phone call. Grrr..
Not expecting anything but this was a $50 pr of tennis shoes that got overlooked.....she could have just said THANK YOU for correcting my GOOF instead of acting like a dishonest crook.
We've been in a resturant and noticed that they did not charge for a particular appetizer. We let them know and they are usually polite about it and very appreciative for that $6 mistake.
You are so right Christina, places have to jack up prices for this type of stuff.
However, it's usually people coming from the OUTSIDE and taking it not someone working there trying to GIVE IT AWAY!
Ya know?
Not trying to get anyone fired....just want them to be informed and on better alert.
I love his comment, "God would've known". Awesome. People always look at me like I'm crazy when I am honest about those sorts of things, but they're always grateful. Never have I had anyone try and let me "get away" with it. Crazy! Good for you guys, and hopefully corporate at Kohls will see this!
Good man, that hubby of yours! I love the "God will know" comment.
Geesh -- and we wonder what this world is coming too!

I can't believe she tried to encourage your husband to just walk away like it never happened. I probably would've asked for a manager at that point. That's a clue that she does that as regularly as she thinks she can get away with it. Good for your husband for looking at the receipt before leaving the store. I usually shove it in the bag until I get home.
You should tell the main Kohl's people. I cannot believe (actually sadly I can) that people actually do that! I always go back when they accidently charge me for something, call me crazy but you are right God and I both know.
Hey, since your format changed on your photo blog I haven't been able to leave comments. Click on the comment button and nothing happens.
Thank goodness there are still honest people left in this world! Isn't it sad that there are so few though, that even to the clerk assumed your husband was in the wrong for trying to pay?? That is crazy!
Secondly- WOW!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for featuring my blog this week! That is so sweet of you, and with your gabillion followers you had a lot of people to choose from!
I really love discovering new fun blogs, so it's always wonderful when someone stumbles upon mine! I'm so glad our blogs crossed paths! Hugs from Texas!
I used to work at Kohls. I. Hated. It. It was the worst work atmosphere ever. I worked there one summer during college as a "misses supervisor." On the other hand, my mother-in-law used to work there, and she liked it! Good discount though :)
I have had this happen so many times recently...and I always go back to tell them...bad karma...and I used to work retail. Also, if the kids are there it is such an important lesson.
It is so unfortunate tat there are people in the world like this cashier who think it is OK to not be honest.
Love popping over to your place! And what a story! Your sweet man is also a good man! Heaven smiled on him for sure! Thanks so much for sharing this post. Blessings, joy and sunshine, Terri
What an awesome hubby!!! Thanks for stopping by today sweetie :)
Like it, Linda. Personally, I like Kohl's prices but hate shopping there. I have had horrible experiences every time including the mean workers who went out of their way to embarrass my daughter. And there was an erroneous bathroom incident, but that I just wrote my post on that today.
Props to your husband for taking them back!
I love the letter and that you put their store number! Too funny.
Your husband is AWESOME and obviously the cashier is NOT.
Wow what a great husband. I love the Spring picture at the top of your blog. Thanks for stopping by and saying nice things about my mantle. Have a great day Round Robin is this Friday.. Just letting you know.
I wonder what else that cashier has given away? Most people would not go back in and pay for them. I think its awesome that you guys did!
LOL, so funny! We had a similar experience but it was for a couple hundred dollar patio table... we of course went back and the cashier was thankful, but he found a store coupon and gave us a discount for being honest- which we took! :)
And PS I agree that Kohls charges WAY to much for certain items, even more expensive than Target at times...there only redeemer is that they usually have coupons or Kohls cash to make me feel like I didn't get ripped off.
Just stopping by! Thanks for sharing!
