******
When I was growing up my dad always tried to get me to sit down and watch tv with him. What's wrong with that, you ask? Well....his idea of a great television show and my idea of a great television show differed . . . A LOT! You see, he wanted to watch educational documentaries and I wanted to watch "teeny bopper" programs (his words). I felt like I had to endure enough of the educational "STUFF" in school so why on earth would I want to watch at home, kwim?
Let's fast forward to present day . . .
I am a mom now.
I am a mom that watches the occasional "educational" program.
I am also a mom that is responsible for three children.
And when I mean "responsible", I actually mean it in more ways than just being a mom.
I homeschool which means I am also responsible for their education.
Do you see where I am going here??
I HAVE TURNED INTO MY DAD!
I sit down and watch these types of programs and actually try to get my kids to do the same.
Sometimes they watch and MOST of the time they turn me down.
A mom's gotta try though, right?

I recently sat down and went through World War II, The Ultimate Collection from A&E.
I remember learning about World War II in school but never this in depth.
A little about the collection :
The crucible of the Greatest Generation, the centerpiece of the 20th century, receives the comprehensive scrutiny it deserves in this spectacular 10-DVD collection.
* 28 documentaries from the authoritative source for WW II history.
* The leaders, the equipment, the battles, and the aftermath are all thoroughly explored.
* Unique combat footage and rare archival materials provide unparalleled insight.

THE HISTORY CHANNEL ULTIMATE COLLECTIONS: WORLD WAR II is a comprehensive and intimate survey of this epic war featuring nearly 30 of its greatest World War II documentaries, each packed with original archival footage, interviews with military experts and historians, and gripping reenactments.

There will never be another war like it; there will never be another DVD collection like this.

This collection would be a great teaching tool/aide for any pre-teen-teen as well as anyone that would like to get more insight.
**It would also make a great gift for DAD! You do know that father's day is coming up, right?

***
Would you like to win a copy of World War II, The Ultimate Collection?
I have one set to give away.
All you have to do is leave me a comment below.
This giveaway will end on Thursday, April 22 and a winner will be announced.

I actually can't stand watching anything about history most times, but WWII is special to me because my grandfather fought in this war. He was actually part of the first wave to hit the beaches on D-Day, it's amazing he even survived. I'd love the opportunity to learn more about it.

My dad was the same way, only swap WWII for Vietnam. And like you, I have turned into my father.

This collection would be wonderful. My better half is a HUGE WWII buff, and this is something he doesn't have (surprisingly), but would love.

Thanks for the contest!

I love watching videos of WWII. I t is interesting to imagine how the war would have been different with today's technology, especially the communications capabilities.

WWII established the basis for the next 50 years of the world. It is still affecting the entire planet today, and those who miss the opportunity to learn about the real history of WWII and its follow on rebuilding of Europe, the Pacific, Asia, the Soviet Union and more, will never have an understanding of the world around them.

This would be so meaningful to me. My Dad was a WWII veteran, and had been a POW of the Germans. His experience was not unlike that in the film "Private Ryan" in that he too was captured in a farmhouse, and the only thing that saved him and a couple of other soldiers was that he had taken courses in the German language in high school. He was able to communicate with the German soldiers. He was held during the coldest winter in Europe in two separate Stalags and worked on the railroad with the Russians. He was wounded several times in battle, and received many medals. I have all the letters that he sent home to my grandmother that she kept in a scrapbook, and I have his medals too. He fought in the Battle of Anzio, waded across the Rhine river in Germany and fought hand to hand combat. Funny thing...he enjoyed the History Channel so that he could see what he had experienced first hand. He passed away in 2005. Needless to say, I am very proud of my Dad.

I actually love war films, and really like the ones that have actual footage from that time. It's a lot better than reading a book about the subject. I'll bet these are great.

I'm a baby boomer, just after World War II, my father fought in WWII and I lived in Germany just after World War II. My father served this country for 30 years, I love the History Channel and read and watch a lot of documentaries on the war.
