A penny for your thoughts

While checking my inbox this morning, I noticed an email from one of my blog supporters.
(I PUFFY HEART emails from blog readers....they are the bomb diggity, just sayin')
The email was a very pleasant one.
ya know:
Hey! How ya doin'? Love the new posts. You are TUBULAR! You ROCK THE HOUSE!
*I totally snuck those last two in there just to make myself look cool. You don't mind do ya?
Anyway, there was a question at the end.
Will you be hosting any more giveaways?

Ah, Giveaways.
Giveaways are tons of fun but WOWZA can they also be a big pain in the boo-honky.
(my word for RUMP)
Most of the giveaways that come my way are brought on by a review of a certain product.
If you are a review blogger then you know what all goes into a review.
Sure, there are bloggers that slap a few sentences on their blog and say "DONE".
I am not talking about those REVIEWS.
Those are eh, ummmm....
Well, those are quiet annoying to the rest of us.
And pssst.....
Guess what? THEY DO READ THEM. (Gasp, who would of THUNK IT?)
Reviews just to get to a giveaway can be tons of work.
After PROPERLY reviewing a product you have to add photos and links and double check the post to make sure it looks ok.
Then you have to plaster the review/giveaway on various forums, media outlets, blogs and so on.
Add it to twitter.
You get the point, right?
THEN you have to monitor the comments or entries.
When it's almost time for the giveaway to end, you are going to want to RE-PLASTER it back on those boards/sites so it can be seen for last minute entrants.
We haven't even got to the part where you have to choose a winner only to find out that the winner never put his/her email addy in the contact info.

Tired yet?
I am.
Just thinking about all of this makes me wanna put a "GONE FISHING" sign up and ya know. . .
GO FISHING or something.
No wonder a lot of us go through the "blog burn-out" phase.

WOW, where was I?
Will I be hosting more?
Yes, I will be hosting giveaways in the future.
However, I am being a lot more selective when posting them.
I will admit that I love the traffic each giveaway brings my way.
It is pretty awesome.
But . . .
I want blog readers NOT visitors looking for a free package of hot dogs.
Does that make sense?
I want you to come here because of my CHARM and GOOD LOOKS (insert bwahahaha laugh here) not for the free hot dogs.
This has been weighing heavy on my mind lately.
It's the reason that you have been seeing more of me and less giveaways.

Whatcha' think?
Building relationships with other bloggers/learning something new/a getaway from the normal routine

I like it! I'm in for the latter and couldn't agree with you more!

I've done a few product reviews and completely understand what you mean. I don't mind seeing a blogger doing one or two reviews every so often, but if that's basically all their blog is about, I'm out of there. Fast.

I so hear you! I thought giveaways would be fun, and they are, but they are a LOT of work. When I set the deadlines for mine, I have to make sure that I have time to process, send out the email, go to random.org, write a post, etc. Thanks for sharing your heart and for visiting my blog! I love how crisp and clean your blog looks! Well done!

I think there is more to blogs then giveaways. Like you said yeah it's nice traffic and I agree I would rather give it to someone who reads my blog then one who just visits to visit for the givaway. I am like you I would much rather read the blogs and learn from them then just pop in once. Stopping by from Harriet's Comment Challenge.

I SOOOO agree, no one really knows how much goes into these reviews and then giveaways. I love doing them but really it's another job.

I so agree I love the traffic but I even more love the people that stop by and then become followers. Comments make my day :)

Thanks for stopping by, love the blog I think I'll follow :)

Give-aways are a hassle! Fun.. but,.. like you described! (insert "gone fishin" sign)

I prefer your blog be all about you, too! I'll enter a giveaway sometimes if it is something I really want. Otherwise, I tend to skip over those posts. I can imagine how much work goes into having a proper giveaway... no thanks! I don't even have time to pee sometimes! ;)
P.S. You do rock!

I stumbled upon your blog while entering a giveaway on another blog and you know what I wanted to stay and read because of the interesting content. I think that some blogs are just giveaway blogs and those do not have much content besides Pr for products but I am now going to subscribe to your blog and it's because I love what I am reading not what I want to win.

Girl, you know I come here for you!! You make me laugh and I can relate to you more than you know (I know, scary huh?!). The giveaways are just the cherry on top, and I dont know about everyone else, but I only like the cherry on top every once in a while! =)

Giveaways are cool but I like to read good content or a blog with lots of humor like this one:)

Oh, I understand and so appreciate you actually taking the time to review and really give a post. I have been one of those to offer products for review on blogs and feel that I go in to a psychotic rage when I get one line. AHHH!

I just found your blog and love it. I read many of your posts and just love it. I am following you and will check you out each day...I get so excited when I find a great new blog to catch my daily dose of.

I have a blog too (I know just about everyone does) with a giveaway that ends tonight if you're interested... www.mollylougifts.blogspot.com Have a great night.

Reviews bring traffic, no doubt...then giveaways...even more, but you can tell when a blogger is just throwing it together for the sake of it. I like reading reviews where there is a full-on effort.

As for YOU -- well both your reviews, post...heck, your WHOLE blog is nothing but charming!

Well I, for one, missed YOU in all those giveaways.

I like reading your own real life stories!

Those are more likely to keep me coming back than a package of hot dogs. Although I do love a good wiener...
