Blind-Sided

Blind-Sided

Mama's Losin' It

One of the prompts this week for Mama Kat's Writers Workshop is :

Who blind-sided you? Write about a time someone caught you totally off guard.

This happens to me a lot.
too much

When BIGGER girl was around 5, we attended a birthday party.
It was a great party. We ate cute mini pizzas, decorated cookies and had cake.
FUN TIMES!
Games were played, treat bags were given out....
You know, Normal birthday party stuff

We got ready to leave and the birthday girl's mom asked BIGGER GIRL for a hug.
BIGGER GIRL jumped up and threw her arm around the mom's neck.
As she was coming down, SHE SPOKE (uh oh)
She asked the lady "Did you brush your teeth today?"
I.could.have.killed.her.

Being a mom means we have to THINK FAST and that's exactly what I did.

I said :
"Tee Hee...She's going through a phase where brushing is very important."
"She just can't get enough!"

I kept on babbling about how BIGGER GIRL thinks everyone has to brush like 50 times a day...blah blah blah

Bigger Girl was tugging at my pants leg trying to tell me that was NOT the reason.
(At least she's honest, huh)

I kept trying to SHOO her away and make her STOP but she kept on.
So, I started coughing.
I coughed a lot.
NEED WATER....
*we left*

I know my face was red.
and the fake coughing made it even redder

Another story that comes to mind is about the Lil Man.
He was about 3 (nearly 4) at the time.
We were sitting down acting silly when all of a sudden he says :
in an upbeat way-kind of like a song

Gimme 5
Up High
Down Low
Gimme a hug
Gimme a kiss
Now Let me touch your boob

:insert blank stare from me here:

A story?
Well, this was his hair before....
See it sticking up?
That's one of the reasons we "buzz" it now.

The other reasons?
He has a BIG head....BIG as in B--I---G.
That hair below?
It made it even bigger.
I'm not joking.
There was this one time where I almost had to cut an OLD NAVY hoodie off of him.
YEP!

It got stuck and would NOT go over his BIG HEAD.
I pulled.
He cried.
I pulled some more.
We both cried.
Just as I told BIGGER GIRL to grab a pair of scissors.....IT CAME OFF.
He never wore that hoodie again.

Hey, I didn't curse him with that big head.
My head is small.

The Year : 1994 or was it 1993?
The Place: Homeroom *9th grade*

Sitting in my desk, chatting it up with a few other girls.....Someone said something funny and we began to laugh.

Laugh
Giggle
Maybe even a few snorts in between a giggle and a laugh

And then IT happened.....

Uh huh

Giggle/Laugh/Giggle/Snort/Laugh . . . .

----> toot <---- Honestly, it could have been the toot heard around the world (or at least the classroom) because as soon as it happened - - - -SILENCE! And then one of the "MORE POPULAR" girls said (while giggling) "WHO DID THAT?" As fast as fast can be, I said "ME!" Why did I answer? AND SO FAST? I still don't know. I mean I could have just sat there with that "look"
(ohhhh you know the look and don't even tell me that you don't....toot? what toot?)

and DENY DENY DENY.
BUT
I didn't.
Everyone laughed some more but this time it was at my expense.

That was when I became known as the girl that tooted in 9th homeroom.
Ok, not really.
But
It was quiet embarrassing.

(that photo up there? well, it has nothing to do with the story. I like it though.)

and SPIT changes it all

Describe how motherhood has changed you

One word:

Spit

Yep, that's right.
Spit

Me (before motherhood) :
"I will N---E---VER clean my child's face with SPIT."

"N-EEE-VER!"

EWWW!

&
"GROSS!"
&
"NOPE, NOT GONNA DO IT."

Me (during motherhood) :

"Uh-Oh, Here comes Prissy McKPrissy-son and her 2 annoyingly perfect children."
"Kids....Quick! Come here and let me wipe away last night's leftovers."
"Let me grab a Wet-One."

Oh, that's right...
I am one of THOSE MOMS.
Ya know, one of THOSE MOMS that do not carry stuff like that.

"What to do ....What to do.....She will be over here any minute."

1..2..3..

Spit meet face.

I've only done this once.
Ok, MAYBE three times.
BUT
The last two times really didn't count.
I used the kid's spit.
Yep, I am clever like that.

If you give a mom a moment

If you give a mom a moment . . .

She could very well turn this
Align Center into this

instead of this
.

If you give a mom a moment . . .

You just might be able to find your floor again.
This

would always be like this
.

If you give a mom a moment . . .

She would greet you at the door like this

and NEVER like this

Just sayin'
