Dear Stanley,

Ok, I KNOW .....
Stanley is NOT your name but since you can't seem to get MY name right then I find this one more appropriate.
Plus, I kind of like Stanley better. (Just sayin')

Anyhoo
Mr. PR professional (I call you Stanley, remember),
I am a little miffed.
Why?
Well, let's just look at the email that was waiting for me in my inbox last night :
(discussion to follow)

Hey Laura,
I was checking out your site and I feel that this (BEEEEP) offer would be a great fit for My Trendy Tykes. As this deal is perfect for Parents, you can win over $500 in savings. The perfect way to tackle the recession, even for the average person that wants to save a little money. This is a fun deal all around, for kids to nieces and nephews.

Let me know if you can post this for me by Thursday, that would be awesome. If so, can you send me the link. If you can do this we may have a giveaway or two coming up, that could work for your site as well.

If you can post this by Thursday, I can show (BEEEEP) My Trendy Tykes.

Let me know your thoughts...

Best
STANLEY
(The name that I gave you)

I am willing to bet that ANY one of my readers can pick out the first thing wrong with this email.

Probably because they know my name.
It's really not that hard to find either.
Ya see that big banner at the top of the screen?
The banner with just ONE of many photos of myself?
(Yes, I have the "Look at Me" disease.)
Here.Look.
Photobucket
See all those red circles?
They are showing you my name.
My momma named me Linda.
Although, she almost named me Lisa but not Laura.
*
Yes, It could have been worse.
You could have called me "Ms. My Trendy Tykes".
uh huh, received that once, twice....too many times

I'm not asking for much.
REALLY.I'M.NOT.
I do welcome any and all PR requests.
And while I don't expect you to read my blog posts
side note: MANY OF THE WONDERFUL REPS THAT I WORK WITH DO ACTUALLY READ MY BLOG AND GET TO KNOW ME. THEY HAVE EVEN EMAILED ME ABOUT RECENT POSTS. I PUFFY HEART THOSE REPS THE MOST.
What? I don't lie.

I do kind.of expect you to get my name right.
OR
At least start the email off with a generic greeting.
Heck, I would even take "To Whom it may concern" over someone else's name.

The name issue was probably the thing that MIFFED me the most.
But then we must discuss this whole "Post this by Thursday, send me the link and if you do so then we MAY offer you a giveaway or two for the readers" stuff.

Oh, and the "IF you do this and send it to me by that certain time, I will then show (beeep) your blog" thing too.

Yeahhhh....

NO!
First of all, while this sounds like a great campaign and all. I know nothing about (beeeep) company. Ya see, we live nearly 500 miles from the closest one.
Since I know nothing about your company then surely you can understand why I would not want to push it on my readers, right?

I do have a reputation to uphold.
(cough)

Plus you sent this email to me at 5:01pm on Wednesday night and wanted it published on THURSDAY?
hmmmm.....
NO!
That's not good for me either.

And while I know publicity is key and I am sure that telling the head honchos at your company about my blog (of course IF I post on THURSDAY) would probably bring me millions and millions of readers....
I am gonna have to pass.

And
*
SERIOUSLY
*
Did you think you were getting on MY BLOG without offering ME something?

Haven't you heard???
Mommy bloggers are freaking greedy, man.
We only do this for the FREE STUFF.

That would be super funny if it wasn't so true that it happens so often! I can't believe they got your name wrong!! WOW!!

Oy, ya know we've all been there but it doesn't get less annoying as it happens over and over again does it? Love the short deadline!

ps: You are way nicer than I am...I'd have posted the company name AND the name of the dimwit rep.

It is kind of funny but not really. PR reps want you to plug their product but can't get your name right. NOT COOL!!! All it takes it a little reading to figure it out.

Gena on October 15, 2009 at 11:56 AM said...

So Laura ummm I mean Linda, you want them to actually LOOK at your site for 2 seconds to read the TOP and KNOW your name is LINDA. Wow you are asking a lot. :)~ What's even worse is that you don't want to work for FREE! Hey he did put a MAYBE in there for your readers. Of course he didn't say when but I'm sure Stanley will remember your site in a few months when he's smacking himself in the head and wishing he would have looked at your site for the freaking 2 seconds it takes to realize your name is NOT Laura. :) Now go work with your PR that love ya! PS You should totally email him this post! Of course he probably won't take the time to read it. :)

To think, just simply looking at your blog would have given him a clue. These are the PR reps that give PR a bid name.

Rhea on October 15, 2009 at 12:27 PM said...

Wow, Laura, You are REALLY difficult to work with! So demanding.

LOL
j/k

You crack me up. I would prefer a generic greeting to a wrong greeting, too.

I hear you.

When I get e-mailed by PR reps, they usually called me WhisperingWriter or Dear Writer and I'm all ????

Once it was all Hey Blogger!

I love it when I get offers for girls stuff and I clearly talk about my 2 BOYS on my blog. Some PR people just don't get it.

Ah....It's sad that this happens so often!

Too funny! I have recently started getting emails from advertisers. Yet to use one though. This one takes the cake though, that is just too funny.

Oh GOD love ya (and everyone else for that matter!) These yahoos think we "Mom-bloggers" are a bunch of idiots! We'll show them (until THEY show the money ; )

Love your post. Some of the offers people send me are downright weird and definitely impersonal. Thanks for voicing my thoughts!

PR Reps need to get it together. I could discuss one that has officially annoyed the crap out of me.

Just found your blog and love this post! :) Looking forward to getting to know you LINDA.. :)

Oh my gosh...really?! I would have loved to get that email...just kidding. I can't believe they got your name wrong Linda AND expected you to post something that isn't anywhere near you AND wanted you to post it by a certain time the next day. They should be ashamed of themselves...um...DELETE!!!

mrs.notouching on October 17, 2009 at 1:09 PM said...

ROFL! Seriously... rolling so hard I will need to replace my floors. I get Dear David emails all the time (my name is Daiva).

Good for you and it was really nice of you not to use their actual name...

Texasholly on October 17, 2009 at 4:17 PM said...

Amen!

I get so many emails to "June" and "June Cleaver" - really, people, my name isn't June Cleaver. REALLY! I mean what a coincidence if it actually was...that would be crazy cool and a little creepy on my parents' part.

Yes and the last minute thing seems to be so popular. It is like they ran out of time and budget and then decided to hit up the mommybloggers. Obviously, I missed the truckloads of freebies driving by my blog as well.

The Only Girl on October 17, 2009 at 7:12 PM said...

This was TOO funny! You go girl! Although I admit that I am dying to know which company it was (a hint? please?) You've got to email him back with a link to this post. Or maybe have one of your friends do it. Anonymously. Whatever. But he HAS to see what a dumb-dumb he is.

Liz Mays on October 17, 2009 at 9:50 PM said...

I know exactly what you're talking about! I got that same email because the way you wrote this is exactly what they said. I see neither of us posted it.

Dang! All this time I've been thinking you were Lulu.
